Marie Faure Ambroise
Any other year you’d find her jet-setting around the world, but this summer, the founder of French travel blog My Travel Dreams will be spending summer at home in France. Donning one of her retro-printed “Bon Voyage” t-shirts and with three children in tow, Marie Faure Ambroise is constantly in motion: from running her website which combines travel journals, an e-shop, and a yoga podcast for children, she has also recently opened a new kid-friendly guesthouse unlike any other – La Maison Réveillon.
Before she was able to set off again, Smallable spoke to Marie about her thousand and one projects and her plans for this summer.

Humble, direct, spontaneous. He loves nothing more than pottering about in his garden, planting and working the soil. Jérôme Dreyfuss, the creator of bags that mesmerize the most elegant women on the planet, has a mission: to do good around him and to make the members of his team happy. We visit his workshop in the heart of Le Marais and share a rainy morning with him.
Lounging on a charpoy, dressed in linen, a chai tea in hand... It’s the sweet Indian summer dream that’s inspiring designers of all kinds.

The co-founder of studio Be-pôles never seems to stop: she’s published a collection of travel books entitled “Portraits de Villes” (“City Portraits”), has restored a chalet in the Alps, and all while juggling life with four children. On the road
In the spring of 2018, Taryn and Martin (known online as @quartiercollective) sold most of what they owned, packed what they could carry and set out with their three children on a grand, global voyage visiting countries like Japan, Morocco, New Zealand and Spain. Since the Coronavirus pandemic hit, the globetrotting family has been temporarily grounded in Idaho, where Taryn was raised and her mother lives. Taryn and Martin took this time to chat with Matilda (age 9), Francis (age 7) and Viggo (age 4) about life on the road, their favourite destinations and most memorable moments.
Matilda, Francis and Viggo are all wearing Hundred Pieces Spring/Summer 2020 collection.

Sherbet colours, reimagined
The creative design scene is experiencing a breath of fresh air, leaving a fruity and floral trail in its wake. This summer, bright and pastel-coloured designs are emerging from avant-garde Scandinavian workshops, breathing new life into all forms of design. The soft and semi-translucent tones, already a favourite amongst millenials, can now be seen decorating children's bedrooms, on activewear, and the fashion industry's latest collections.
With a playful nod to colours reminiscent of childhood memories, such as enjoying a cool popsicle on a hot summer day, these designs are sure to render your home much more vibrant.

An antique Egyptian eye and pre-Columbian pliers, an Amazonian headdress and Nigerian coins, a Khmer mirror and a Berber tent peg: these are just some of the improbable associations created by French sculptor Nicolas Lefebvre. The sculptor connects continents, periods and beliefs from his workshop in the 9th arrondissement of Paris.
He has lived in Peru, holidays regularly in Lisbon and would like to settle down in Greece one day. An eternal traveller, art history lover and eclectic collector; Nicolas is a man of many hats. His favourite label is that of “smuggler”, and someone who gives new life to objects. His sculptures are to be exhibited in Saint-Tropez this summer at Lucas Ratton Gallery (we're keeping our fingers crossed!). In the meantime, till those sunny days arrive, the happy father of 9-year-old, Anahi, took some time to chat to Smallable about his life, works and inspirations.

Get to know: Elodie Laléous
Mum of three, entrepreneur, designer and founder of Lab. and La Petite Collection, Elodie Laléous is a woman of many talents who adores imagining up new eco-responsible products and artisanal savoir-faire.
She recently welcomed us into her dreamy home and workshop space, located about 30 minutes outside of Lyon. After preparing a delicious fruit salad together with her three kids, Elodie spoke to us about her brands, how the adventure began and what’s next for their collections.
The Artist's Studio
Artists’ stools, coveralls, sketches, sculptural objects and mastered imperfections all around... Sometimes bohemian and bare, sometimes raw and industrial, or coloured and variegated, the spirit of the artist’s studio is taking over the creative scene.
Exhibitions are being staged to resemble studios. Aesthetes are turning to the arts and crafts movement to reconcile design with manual work. Creative studios themselves are becoming part of the exhibition, and are being considered as much as the artworks themselves. Fashion is calling on artists and invoking their wardrobe. More than ever before, a dialogue is being established between design and crafts, with an emphasis on authenticity, without flourish.

The potter’s wheel, enamels, shapes, lines, materials, shine, beautiful tables, good food... That’s Marion Graux’s vocabulary. In her studio in Pigalle, she experiments to find the perfect shade of “cheek pink” and she sells dried flowers when she’s not dipping her hands in clay to create tableware for the boldest chefs. Her ceramics are used by Cyril Lignac, Hélène Darroze, Charles Compagnon and Guy Martin. More recently, Marion and her husband have developed new a type of industrial tableware, that keeps pottery at its soul, so that her beautiful creations can be on every table. Make way for her delicious table stories!

An Apple A Day
This season’s urban farmer trend is encouraging kids to embrace their inner gardener, and learn to love their fruits and veggies.
Out of Africa
A desire to explore has taken hold of interior design and urban wardrobes as they aspire to take us on a journey beyond the digital. Rustic and natural materials, utilitarian details, terracota hues... Designers have long been inspired by the wardrobe of African explorers and have distilled their timeless essence into many current collections. Reminiscent of "Out of Africa", a 1985 Hollywood classic, these traditional motifs can also be found in interior design trends. Let us show you how!
In the fade
This season in children’s fashion muted tones and pared back colours reign supreme. Key colours for SS20 include ochre, khaki, burnt orange, camel and dusty pink. Mixing influences as varied as safari suits and the work of Italian painter Giorgio Morandi, fashion brands have created laidback and timeless pieces that your kids will be wanting to wear for seasons to come.
Arts & Craft Décor
This season, embrace all things natural in your homes with finishing touches and statement pieces in raffia, macramé, wicker and stoneware.
All you need is love!
Wear your hearts on your sleeves and show your love of fun fashion with our selection of heart-themed clothes, accessories and décor for kids. Whether you and your kids are celebrating Valentine's Day or not this year, this timeless motif never goes out of style!
Shearling & Sheepskin
A failsafe winter staple, all things shearling, sheepskin and faux fur will keep you feeling warm and fuzzy as the temperatures start to drop.
Amélie du Chalard
The daughter of an artist, former banker and now owner of a new kind of gallery, Amélie du Chalard has led anything but a traditional life. So perhaps understandably, she found traditional galleries often intimidating, disconnected and rigid. As such, she decided to open her very own maison d'art - a place apart and alive, where her collection of abstract art is displayed as if in a private home. She spoke with Smallable about her collection’s focus, her plans and her projects for the year ahead.
In a country with a thriving economy, the "designed in Copenhagen" style is revealing itself as a more vibrant and daring aesthetic, far from the "exclusive" and minimal Scandinavian clichés. This new creativity can be found in the collections of emerging fashion labels as well as in young designers, and the concept stores of the capital. Formerly minimal and functional, Danish style is today elegant and dominating the current trends.
Breathe life into your sophisticated camel basics with a pop of colour. This season, we're contrasting neutral corduroy and suede staples with statement items in daring shades of fuschia, magenta and hot purple. A winning, and largely underrated, colour combination, browse our selection of vivacious violet and beautiful beige pieces now.
Bold and striking, combat the gloomy weather with an injection of neon orange into your AW19 wardrobes. Seen on runways and street style stars across the globe, this shade is a fun way to liven up otherwise understated outfits.
Sophisticated and minimalist, who says you can't wear white once the temperatures start to drop? These sleek and crisp looks are the perfect antidote to all black monotony this autumn.
Vive the 70s!
Seventies style is making a resurgence in home design and décor this season. In ode to hippie days of yore, brands are embracing rattan, cane and jute accents, earthy colours and arts-and-crafts-style ceramics. Combined with iconic retro pieces, like those from Vitra, this elclectic trend is for those who are a little bohemian at heart.
That 70s Style
Corduroy, fringe, dark wash denim and brown galore – seventies looks are back in style.
Walk The Line
Delicately geometric pieces in warm tones and finishes, such as brass, copper and gold, will bring a touch of sophistication to your interiors. These pieces feel refined but inviting thanks to the contrast between their structured forms and soft colour mood.
Create a warm, Mediterranean style home wherever you are by contrasting contemporary pieces with antiquity-inspired accessories.
Picasso, Braque, Cocteau, Matisse, Calder… Home design labels are taking cues from Modern art and the work of artists from the early 20th century for this season’s collections. From Matisse-inspired motifs to abstract fields of colour, these dynamic pieces will bring an artful touch to your homes (without the Picasso price tag).
Think pink (and green!)
Pink and green: a classic, but largely underrated, colour combination...
Ahead of the curve
Harsh lines be gone! Circles, ovals, organic forms and rounded edges reign supreme this season in home design and décor.
Dramatic but timeless, black accents in the home will never go out of style. Offset with gold, these pieces give off a more glamourous, Gatsby-esque vibe and add a graphic look to any interior.
Autumnal hues of burnt orange, terracotta and ochre will keep your little ones warm and cosy this season.

Daniela, Mother of Marlene and Martha
Daniela is a mother of two who lives with her family in a beautiful, old home in Kassel. Her great passions in life are photography, interior decorating, the great outdoors, and, as her Instagram handle would suggest, flowers! Fresh blooms are dotted throughout her home, which is decorated in a careful selection of muted and blush tones. Mixing objects that are antique and modern with her floral flair, Daniela has created a home that is warm, inviting and full of charm, while still being family-friendly. Proud mum of Marlene and Martha, with Mother’s Day coming up soon, Daniela shares with us how the day is celebrated in Germany and what her family does on the day.
Aika, mother of Fuyura
Japanese creative, store owner and mother of one, Aika, is inspired by her travels and all the beautiful handicrafts she discovers along the way. Her monochrome style is minimalist and carefully curated. A fan of neutral tones and natural textures, Aika cherishes unique, handmade objects, which is what gives her style its authentic, whimsical touch. Her love for quality design has culminated in her opening a delightful store, ciiter, where she is able to share her creative discoveries, from her European and Asian travels, in her native Japan. With Mother’s Day coming up soon, we chatted with Aika about what the day means to her, how she celebrates it with her daughter, Fuyura, age 5, and to get her pick of gifts she’d love to receive.
Pared back, slightly seventies-inspired and super cool, embrace your inner Californian skater chick this season with brands like Vans, Current Elliot, Soeur, YMC and Roseanna.
This has long been the shared philosophy of Marie Deffrennes and Marion Boucheux. After finishing theirs studies in journalism and publicity, the duo created Les Louves, a carefully-curated online magazine where they share insider addresses, what they’re currently fawning over and advice for parents and parents-to-be. Only after rigorously testing and trialing new products and experiences, do they appear on the Les Louves platform. Their mission is simple: To guide and accompany parents (and future parents) in their day to day lives.

Shiny Happy People
The year 2000 has called, and all things glitz and glam are back on the menu. Whether its
silver or gold, shiny or sequinned, brands like Finger in the Nose, Hundred Pieces, Soft
Gallery and The Animals Observatory are shining a light on this fun new trend for kids.
Without a doubt, this season’s must-have print for kids is gingham. Vintage and perfect for the spring, the classic print is everywhere in our creator’s collections. From swimsuits to dresses and blouses, try black and white for a more timeless look, or why not red, orange or pink for something new.
Ecru, ivory, beige, stone… Natural hues are invading our children’s wardrobes this season in the spirit of more rustic, raw looks. Don linen, cotton and natural fibres for an authentic spin on this sartorial homage to Mother Earth.
New Wave Neutrals
This summer is all about tonal dressing with the season’s hero colours being elegant neutrals, think: ecru, beige, brick red, camel and ochre. Offset these sandy hues with delicate gold jewellery and refined leather sandals for an effortless look.
Helen, Mother of Clem and Rei
For her first child, born in 2015, Helen went for a completely monochrome décor. She now admits that her daughter Clem’s room could have been mistaken for a Rorschach test*. When her second daughter was born in January 2017, she felt the need to soften up the black and white look. Graphic prints have made way for pale pink walls, ash tones and soft wooden accents. Helen recently undertook the task of renovating her home in London, which presented another opportunity to change the nursery.

Sanne, mother of four
Meet Sanne. This mother of four lives in the idyllic countryside just outside of Amsterdam, where she and her family do their best to embrace the slow life. Surrounding herself and her family with nature and mindful objects is important for Sanne. She takes great care to fill her home with items that are calming and gentle; pared-back while resting warm and authentic; that inspire play, and that are handcrafted with respect for the planet and compassion for others.

Steffi, mum of 2-year-old Liz
Ever since finding out she was pregnant with Liz, Steffi wanted a room that would be functional. Now that everything is set up, she continues to change the décor regularly to adapt the room to her growing child. The aim? To help Liz to be independent. To do this, she wants to give her all the tools she needs. In her room, everything is designed to fulfil her desire to explore her environment. The furniture is low enough for her, so she can do things by herself. The bed is on the floor, the toys are kept in baskets, her books are on low shelves and she always chooses the activity she wants to do herself. What’s more, her room is constantly evolving. Steffi does her best to keep up with the newest ways to educate Liz and offer her a fun area to play, where she can develop her creativity.

Tessa, Mother of 4
After having 3 sons, Tessa and her husband welcomed a little girl into the world: Keetje. The new arrival has not changed her favoured style: natural materials and soft colours. These two elements bring warmth to a room and create a calm atmosphere, so that everyone around feels at ease. Tessa likes unique pieces with a history. Her daughter’s changing table was a cupboard used in her grandmother’s shop many years ago. She takes time to select products carefully. Small brands and companies are her favourite. The same goes for handmade items. For Tessa, they last longer and have more value. Her favourite brands at Smallable: Wooden Story, Pénélope dolls by Happy To

Ella, Mother of Tiny T. and Little O.
Architect and freelance designer, Ella, is inspired by Scandinavian design without being minimalist. She collects and compiles a selection of beautiful objects in a fantastically mishmash style that is inspiring, while remaining organised. When decorating for her two children nicknamed Tiny T. and Little O., who were born just 20 months apart, she prefers muted tones and wood. Their space is built around two elements: the bed and the rich, lichen colour that coats several walls in their home. Ella adds plenty of texture with blankets, stuffed animals and cushions galore. At the moment, her son’s room is filled with marine creatures as she dreams of one-day living by the sea.
