Invented in 1949, the String shelving system has never gone out of fashion, even 60 years later! Dreamed up by the Swedish designer, Nisse Strinning, String adjustable shelves have become timeless. The idea came about during a competition organised in 1949 by a Swedish designer: create a bookshelf system that was cheap, adjustable, simple to put together and practical. Nisse Strinning won the competition and developped the famous String shelves with the Bonnier editions. Today, the shelves are still made in Sweden and the look has not changed. According to Smallable, the modern Scandinavian shelves from String provide the perfect storage for a children’s bedroom, a teen’s bedroom, or any of the other rooms in your home!
