Phaidon

Phaidon

Founded in Vienna in 1923 by Dr. Bela Horovitz and Ludwig Goldscheider, Phaidon is the premier global publisher of the creative arts with over 1,500 titles in print. Originally specialising in books on literature, philosophy, and history, the company soon began to include books about contemporary artists and other creative mediums. Deriving its name from one of Socrates’ pupils, Phaidon is dedicated to celebrating culture of all kinds. After moving the company to England during the second World War, the company made history in 1951 with their Phaidon Colour Plate book, which for the first time made artists' work readily available in colour. Now headquartered in London and New York City, the company works with some of the world’s most influential artists, chefs, and writers in order to produce innovative books on a range of topics, as well as illustrated books for children.
