Coutume

While working as a textile designer for Louis Vuitton, Céline Gaiardo had the opportunity to design collections for an association of artisans in Guatemala. It was here that she discovered the wealth of textile craftmanship in these regions and where the idea for Coutume was born. Since 2018, Céline has been designing décor objects from her base in Paris and travelling to Central America where she carefully chooses the workshops, materials and textile techniques and meets with the weavers that will bring her creations to life. All of the brand’s pieces are made using high quality, natural and sustainable materials and with respect to Fair Trade practices, ensuring ethical methods of production and fair pricing for their artisans. The handmade blankets, rugs and cushions are all embroidered, woven or dyed from memory in a tradition that preserves local cultural heritage and century-old techniques.
